Weekend Retreat

Praying with
St Elizabeth of the Trinity

15th - 17th January 2027

Exploring the life and teaching of St Elizabeth of the Trinity

Led by Fr Matthew Blake, OCD

The life of St Elizabeth of the Trinity echoes closely that of St Therese of Lisieux, whose writings she encountered at the age of 17.

Together with the example of the Carmelite nuns, Elizabeth was drawn to enter the convent aged 21, despite a beckoning career as a pianist. Her brief life in the Carmel focussed on the search for union with the Blessed Trinity in silence and recollection, but expressed in her letters and poems.

She died aged only 26, suffering from Addison’s disease, the pain of which she heroically offered to God with patience and joy.

She is considered a wonderful guide for those seeking interior peace and intimacy with God.

This retreat will offer five talks over the weekend, framed by opportunities for Mass, communal prayer in the morning and evening, and Adoration.

Free time for walks and reflection is built into each retreat.

Fr Matthew Blake is a Carmelite priest. Originally from Ireland, he has lived and worked  in the UK for more than thirty years. His ministry has mainly involved retreat direction, for which he is well-known in the UK, and he has also worked in many different parishes.

Theodore House offers a wonderful venue for any residential course. The tranquil and beautiful surroundings of the Stonyhurst estate offer a peaceful setting with endless opportunities for walks. Guests will enjoy the comfortable recreational spaces and a beautifully lanscaped garden.
