The original Old Chapel Museum was created in the late 1800s, sitting adjacent to the Arundell Library. Together, these occupied the centre section of the left-hand side of the quadrangle formed by the old Stonyhurst Hall.
The museum was dismantled in 1972, with the lower storey being converted into the Rhetoric Playroom.
In 2014, extensive work commenced to restore the Historic Libraries (composed of the Bay Library, the Square Library and the Arundell Library), following which the upper storey of the original museum was repurposed and commissioned to house a new, Old Chapel Museum.
The charity raised the necessary funds to purchase the museum cases that enable a rotating display of the relics and religious artefacts held by the College.
